The official launch of the Bedford Hill Place public space took place on 4 Dec 2016 at the Christmas Lights celebration event.
The new public space has been created in a disused area next to Sainsbury’s car park and has provided shoppers with a seating area and much needed outdoor events space.
It is just part of the transformation of Balham over the past few years, including the pedestrianisation of Hildreth Street and the installation of new paving and lighting in the popular market street.
In addition, public artworks have been created around Balham, along Balham High Road, including the transformation of the wall next to Waitrose car park called the Music of Architecture and beautifully designed frieze tiling attached to the wall under the railway bridge. The architectural design and artworks have won a 2016 Wandsworth Design Award collected by Metropolitan Design. The scheme was curated by Modus Operandi and the public artworks are by Tod Hanson.
