Balham Town Centre received significant private sector investment during recent years. For example with many businesses upgrading / expanding their premises or in moving into Balham. Indeed Balham continues to have a very low vacancy rate with enquiries for premises and pop-up shops far outstripping supply.
Balham Town Centre retains many of its older Edwardian and Victorian buildings though newer developments have brought large format convenience shopping floorspace to the town centre. The main supermarkets within the town centre are the Sainsbury’s superstore on Balham High Road, which has a town centre shoppers car park to the rear, and Waitrose are also located on Balham High Road, which has a smaller car park in front of the store. Balham also has a number of small independent food retailers.
Balham has a mixture of high street names and independent businesses. Town centre names include Pizza Express, Nandos, McDonalds, TKMaxx, Boots, Caffè Nero and Starbucks. The increasing variety of independent shops and boutiques is attracting customers from a wider area. Balham provides a range of financial and professional services and a good number of high street national banks and building societies are represented. Balham is also home to a variety of health, hair and beauty establishments.
