(Buses, Trains, Freedom Pass, Parking Shop)

Balham has an excellent transport service with buses, trains and underground all meeting in the centre of town. - However - if you want to help make it better why not tell the Council (see details by clicking here)

If you are over 60, or disabled, make sure that you obtain your "Freedom Pass" for all London's public transport. See Freedom Pass information below.

Buses

  • 155 - Tooting (St Georges) to Lambeth
  • N155 - Merton High Street - Aldwych (Night time service only)
  • 249 - Balham Train Station to Penge
  • 315 - Balham Train Station to Tulse Hill Train Station
  • 355 - Mitcham (London Road) to Brixton (Brixton Road)

Underground

Balham is on the Northern Line with frequent trains to central London via the Bank and Charring Cross branches. Typical travel time to Waterloo is 15/20 minutes.

Monday to Friday 06:14, 06:20 then every two to four minutes until 00:52
Saturday - 06:14, 06:20 then every three to four minutes until 00:52
Sunday - 07:49, 07:54 then every three to four minutes until 00:08

Overground

South West Trains is responsible for Balham station with a frequent service to Victoria (Central London), Clapham Junction, Gatwick and Croydon.


Freedom Passes

Travel Permits (or Freedom Passes as they are known in Wandsworth) provide free off-peak travel on most of London's transport facilities, including rail services and the new tram network. They are issued free of charge by the Technical Services Department, to blind and disabled people who meet the eligibility criteria and are permanent residents of Wandsworth.

People who are registered blind or partially sighted and people in receipt of the DLA higher rate mobility allowance automatically qualify and will, on proof of continued residency within the Borough, be issued a Freedom Pass. Any other residents who consider that they meet the criteria can apply by completing a form that they can get from either their local library or by contacting The Concessionary Travel Team.

All children under 16 years can travel free on London's buses and trams.

This office is open on Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm for personal callers and from 9.00am to 5.00pm for telephone enquiries.

All applications will need to be accompanied by a copy of one of the following documents to provide proof of residence in Wandsworth:

A utility bill (Eg. Gas, Water etc.)
A Bank statement
A Council tax bill
A TV licence
A Rent book

(Please note these must contain a date within 3 months of the application.)

Proof of identity will also be required via one of the following:

Birth Certificate
Marriage Certificate
Medical Card
Passport

Unless you are blind or partially sighted you will also need to enclose two passport sized photographs.
