This Team was formed in October 1999. The Sensory Impairment Specialists form an important subset of the SPD Team which provides assessment and services for people who have a sight and/or hearing loss. When to Contact the TeamIf you have been assessed at hospital by an ophthalmologist (a doctor who specialises in the care of the eyes) as being blind or partially sighted and you have agreed to be registered as such, your details will automatically be passed to the SPD Team who will make contact with you to discuss your needs. If you are not registered and you have sight loss that is making it difficult for you to manage ordinary tasks, you can contact the SPD Team direct and they will be pleased to discuss your needs. Help Provided by the Sensory and Physical Disability TeamThe SPD Team has a number of workers who specialise in sensory impairment, comprising a care worker and two qualified rehabilitation workers. They should be able to answer any queries you may have regarding your sight loss and provide information on services that are available to you locally. How to Contact the Sensory and Physical
Disabilities (SPD) Team The rehabilitation workers provide a specialist Visual Impairment (V.I.) Duty Service every Monday and Friday morning 9:30 to 12:30. You can phone them, write or call in person into Lyon House. The direct line for V.I. Duty is 020 8871 7127.
