Simple tips for summer heat
With memories of the recent heatwave still fresh in people's minds the council has joined with local health chiefs in offering a few simple tips for coping with high summer temperatures.
§ Check the local weather forecast - if a heatwave is coming, try and plan your day in a way that allows you to stay out of the heat.
§ Try to avoid going out in the hottest part of the day - usually from 11am to 3pm
§ If you are outside, stay in the shade. Wear a hat and light, loose-fitting clothes, preferably cotton. If you will be out for some time take plenty of water with you - especially if you are travelling by Tube.
§ Drink plenty of liquids – water and fruit juices are best.
Heatstroke can develop very suddenly. If you suspect that you or someone else has heatstroke, call 999 immediately.
It is also tempting to open and leave windows open in the hot weather. This is fine but do remember to shut them again at night, particularly windows and doors on the ground floor.
