Sight of Emotion is a project aiming to empower visually impaired communities around the world to create a dialogue with sighted people, creating awareness and educating public audiences of the needs and experiences of visually impaired people. Projects have already been run with visually impaired people in Mexico and the UK, and have been extremely well received by both the participants and those attending the exhibitions to view the photographs.

Photography has long been considered a powerful form of communication, but it is widely regarded as the domain of the seeing world.  Not many people are aware that there are already professional photographers who are blind - and photographers who teach their skill to blind people.  Sight of Emotion demonstrates to both participants and exhibition visitors that photography requires the use of all the senses - and that the loss of one sense need not be prohibitive.

In discovering their abilities, participants gain a greater sense of inclusion, freedom of expression and independence. Learning the skills of photography gives participants a new form of communication and a channel for self-advocacy - a means of articulating their experiences, needs, hopes and concerns to their sighted audience.  Their photographs will enable them to challenge the obstacles they face in their daily lives and raise consciousness about the needs of people with sight problems.
